James Bopp is the attorney from Terre Haute, Indiana who was hired by Citizens United to represent them in court. The petition in the case was the client seeking permission to air Hillary, the movie during the Democratic presidential primaries on-demand TV. Mr. Bopp got laughed out of court failing in the case before the federal three-judge panel. The reason Citizens United was denied the permit was because it could give the financier who paid for the 90-minute campaign ad. James Bopp, however, had a different approach concerning the case. His argument was the ad was not very much different from the ordinary 60-minute ads. He also stated that the creators of the movie deserved First Amendment Protections. The disgracing moment was when Royce Lamberth the US District Court Judge laughed out loud asking if Mr. Bopp had read the transcript of the movie not knowing that two years later his ruling would be reversed by the supreme court in favor of James Bopp.
It was later decided that campaign spending was only a formula of speech and should thus be protected by First Amendment which was later extended to corporations by the Citizens United. Citizens United was a finale of all the efforts of James Bopp to do away with the nation’s campaign finance regulations. He has ever since been dedicated to pursue challenges and help in dismantling every face of campaign-finance regulation. The political action committee that was focused on driving huge amounts of money from politics is now generating more money of its own.
During the first three months of 2017, End Citizens United collected an amount exceeding $4 million, and it is set to raise the amount to $35 million before the 2018 midterm elections for Congress. That figure would depict a surge from the $25 million the PAC took in the election in 2016. Electing campaign-finance reform champions into the congress is the main agenda of this action group. The PAC’s president Tiffany Muller stated that during the first quarter of the year, 100000 people contributed of which 40000 were first-time givers. To sum the total contribution the amount that was received by End Citizens United PAC this year exceeded $12 million. The best way according to them was using big checks to get the system that rigged them. The Democrats were Furthermore agitated by the win of Donald Trump, and furthermore, the selection he made including his Supreme Court pick Judge Neil Gorsuch. Muller added to it that the committee was still examining the races to determine which it will be party to in 2018. It was however very clear that they will have a hand in defending the Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and John Tester of the Montana in 2018.
